Dr. Jean Maltesen
Vice-President, Enrolment and Student Experience
Dr. Jean (Jeannie) Maltesen has served Vancouver Island University for more than three decades, with a career dedicated to student success, educational access, inclusion and institutional effectiveness.
Jeannie has held a diverse range of academic and administrative leadership roles at VIU, including Interim Associate Vice-President Academic, Dean of Academic and Career Preparation, Interim Associate Vice-President International Education, and Interim Associate Vice-President Marketing, Recruitment and Communications, along with extensive experience as an educator. Working across academic and administrative areas has given her a broad, institution-wide perspective, a deep understanding of the university and insight into the many factors that shape the student experience.
As Interim Vice-President, Enrolment and Student Experience, Jeannie brings a collaborative and student-centred approach to the role. She is committed to working across the university to strengthen enrolment and student success, reduce barriers to participation, and foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where students can thrive.
Jeannie values diverse perspectives and strong relationships. She works to bring people together around shared goals and believes that trust and meaningful engagement are essential to advancing the university’s priorities.
Jeannie holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of British Columbia, a Master of Education in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning from the University of Calgary, and Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees from Lakehead University. Her academic background and leadership experience reflect a longstanding commitment to the priorities at the heart of the Enrolment and Student Experience portfolio.
